Methot would fit in very well on the Leafs defense. Hoping that doesn't happen.

You'd think if Karlsson is the number one concern that Methot would be a lock to keep considering they are line mates and really good friends.

i think if Methot gets taken it'll fall on PD and Ceci (who will never live up to expectations).

Wow, I don't like all this Methot/LV/Leafs talk one bit. I will be mortified if this turns out to be a thing. Can you imagine getting shipped to the team you've spent your whole life hating? If I was Methot I'd call Lou and be like: 'dude, I'm not going to make an effort over there so be warned. I'm gonna ride out my two years/10 mill and do nothing. Also, I'm going to help the Sens win when you play them. Phuck you'.

Why should he be fired for that? He could have done what Montreal did with Beaulieu, trade him for whatever, but then you still lose another player, and it could have been Claesson taken, and then where would you be? Scrambling for defensemen who can play at the NHL level.

Methot is not going to the Leafs. Methot is a lefty. They have Reilly and Gardiner there.
They are looking for right D. Probably get Colin Miller (Bos) via LV.

That would be unprofessional, although he does have a no-trade list, and apparently the Leafs are on it, which I failed to mention originally but now added to the post.

Anselmi did an interview on the radio a couple weeks after getting the job as the new President. When asked about the jerseys he said they took the fans suggestions into consideration when they decided.

I figured we would get the 'O' or the 2d logo.

I don't know one fan who prefers the status quo over either of those. Either he lied, or there are a whole bunch of mystery fans. Not sure where they are hiding, cause I don't see any of them online anywhere.

As for the expansion draft, it's going to be very, very difficult not to dislike Dion if Methot is taken tonight. Maybe Dorion has a deal in place to get another solid top 4 guy in Marc's absence, but if not, it's a huge hit to this team.

everyone has to just relax a bit and wait out the storm. there is no perfect solution.... Ottawa is going to lose and asset (or more if a side deal was worked out). That cant be changed, nor controlled to a great extent.

The good news is that the sun will rise tomorrow, Dorion can dust himself off and adjust. Whomever is lost is not irreplaceable.

If he really likes Ottawa, and wants to compete for cups, he should have waived to keep this team strong. Any agent with half a brain should have know there was zero chance Vegas takes him. By waiving, there was actually a greater chance Ottawa would have got a deal done to trade Dion so we could protect Methot. Odds are, our cheap-ass owner is the only reason Phaneuf is still going to be wearing a Sens jersey next season.

As for losing someone else, the three you mentioned would have all still been protected. It would have been Claesson or Wideman packing his bags, and that's fine. Our available forward group is one of the weakest in the league.

Methot was our 2nd best Dman this playoff. The Conn Smyth winner had BY FAR his weakest series against Ottawa.. because of Methot. Methot also shut down Marchand/Bergeron in the first round. Defensive Dman with above average speed and the amount of class and character he has are NOT easy to find.

Surprised about the lack of leaks so far, but if the rumours of what they are doing with the Wild are true, then I think all bets are off, and VGK might end up going full tank this year and trying to end of up with the 1st overall in 2018, plus another 20-30 picks.
(Otherwise there is no way they would pass on Dumba, who even if they didn't want him to suit up, would fetch a better return than two prospects and a conditional draft pick). if that is how they are going, and they couldn't work out a trade for any of OTT's exposed guys, then maybe they take someone young, or cheap?

I heard this morning that Methot may have a limited movement clause in his contract that would prevent a trade to the Leafs or Habs.

Although Methot is a solid shut down defenseman, I'm not convinced he's irreplaceable next to Karlsson. Remember, Karlsson won the Norris with Filip Kuba as his D partner.

Everyone's losing their mind but other than the effect it will have on Karlsson's happiness we need to walk away. I am praying Dorion and the team was smart enough to discuss this with Karlsson which made it ok to leave Methot off the protection list.

We are fortunate enough to have a couple decent defenceman waiting to take on a bigger role that might save our ass. Losing fan favorite Pageau or Brassard (Who we just got in a one for one last summer) for nothing would make no sense.

listen I agree no one wants to lose methot.


There is no guarantee that vegas wouldn't have taken phaneuf....

Honestly think about it, they are taking horrible contracts with draft picks just to get picks.


What would stop them from taking phaneuf then flipping him with salary retained for a great return?

Everyone was reporting there was trade interest in phaneuf, you add in him at 50% retained and I'm sure teams would be clamoring for him.



Need to ease up on the hate train and just realize that we don't see all the cards, and as such can't possibly know all of the outcomes.
